Being Right With God

Today I heard a phrase called "positional righteousness", I had never heard that before and what it means is positionally we are right with God because we have been saved. So because we gave our life to Jesus, Jesus took our sin and we have righteousness for what He did on the cross, and this righteousness doesn't waver as we continue to sin because we have already been saved. But along with that is another phrase called personal righteousness which is the righteousness we pursue because of the righteousness you have already received.

Are you positionally and personally righteous or just positionally righteous?

Have you been saved but still continue to sit in your old ways or do you seek God and seek what is good for His kingdom each and every day?

Matthew 7:21-23 says this “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’

It made me think about how we are all sinners and even though we try to live out a life for God we will still sin; this is because sin is our human nature and it seperates us from God, but despite this God sees us, hears us, loves us, and forgives us continually. So don't trip over what's behind you! God did not teach us to be shameful and guilty in our ways He taught us to repent and turn away and walk into a relationship with Christ. Funny thing is as many of us become Christians we tend to still look back and feel ashamed of our past, but we are the only ones looking and we are the only ones remembering.

1 John 1:9 "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

When God looks at you He looks at you with love and if you have been saved He does not see a bunch of stains of sin on your life but God sees you His child as clean and new because whatever sin you had has already been paid for and whatever you are ashamed of has already been erased and whatever you think is who you are has already died to itself when you chose to follow Jesus.

Your sin has already been forgiven in the eyes of God, but in the eyes of those around you they still might remember you by your sin and that's ok. It's ok because the only one who's opinion matters about you is your creator, the only one who fully knows your heart and has heard every cry for help as you overcame your sin. To those around you who still remember you before you were cleansed you can show the grace of God and the fruit of the spirit, and you can acknowledge how you were once lost and now you have been found. It's our job to live like Jesus and spread the gospel to those around us, but it is ultimately up to God to work in the hearts of others.

Galatians 5:22-23 "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law." By showing the fruit of the spirit to others you are showing where your heart is rooted and giving glory to God's name.
